Macallan may not have pioneered the mixing of European and American oak casks for aging a single malt but many feel they perfected it. The Macallan 18-Year-Old Double Cask matured in such a mix but with the added benefit of all of the wood having been seasoned with dry Oloroso sherry. The results are amazing. The American oak imparts vanilla, butterscotch, and lemony notes while the European oak with its denier tannin profile adds a gentle spiciness to the sweet dried fruits and caramel influences from the sherry. The Macallan 18-Year-Old Double Cask is the ultimate expression of Macallan's signature flavor.
