Balvenie 21 Year Old PortWood is an exceptional Single Malt Whisky, expertly refined over many years to reach the pinnacle of full rounded characterful taste perfection.
Malt Master David Stewart, who has worked at the Distillery for over half a century is responsible for crafting the whisky in a single distillation and ageing it for 21 years in port casks to enhance and enrich the full boded single malt, whilst preserving its original characteristics. To ensure that just the right amount of character is imparted by the port casks, he samples the whisky regularly. Considered by many to be David’s finest creation, this whisky is one of his proudest achievements and has won an array of highly coveted industry awards since its release in 1996.
The Balvenie Distillery has been owned and managed by the same independent family company for five generations. The multi-award winning Balvenie Distillery in Banffshire is famous for being the only one left in Scotland to retain the traditional crafts of whisky production. Nowhere else will you find a distillery that still grows its own barley, still malts in its own traditional floor maltings and still employs a team of coopers to tend all the casks and a coppersmith to maintain the stills. Meanwhile our maltmen turn the barley up to four times a day, seven days a week.
