The Balvenie crafts a distinctive collection of single malt Scotch whiskies in Speyside, utilizing time-honored techniques passed through generations. Their process blends tradition with expertise, centred on five essential crafts: growing barley, barrel cooperage, malting, distillation in copper stills, and the malt master’s refinement. The Balvenie French Oak 16 Year Old is matured for sixteen years in American oak casks before being finished in Pineau des Charentes casks—French oak barrels previously holding fortified wine made from grape juice and Cognac eau-de-vie. This maturation imparts notes of vanilla spice and warm honey, while the Pineau finish adds vibrant grapefruit, geranium, glazed fruit, and ginger. This expression marks Balvenie’s first exploration of French oak, showcasing floral and orchard fruit aromas with a zestful, spiced, and crisp finish.
