Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost & Rare releases are a series of limited editions that explore the rich flavours and distinctive distillery characters of selected whiskies from the Johnnie Walker Blue Label reserves.

Another edition in Johnnie Walker's Blue Label Ghost & Rare series, which shines a light on whiskies from closed distilleries.

A tribute to the now-defunct Pittyvaich distillery on Speyside, the no-age-statement blended malt will be available from next month in limited numbers. Whisky from two other closed distilleries, Port Dundas and Carsebridge, features in the blend along with liquid from Speyside’s Mannochmore, Auchroisk, Cragganmore and Strathmill as well as Royal Lochnagar in the Highlands.

Pittyvaich opened in 1974 before closing its doors 18 years later.

Each release offers a fleeting opportunity to favour the depth of character of whiskies from "ghost" distillers that have long since closed, but whose spirits still live on in the dwindling stocks of their maturing whiskies.

This limited edition series sees some of their rarest whiskies reawakened. At the heart of this release is an exceptional single malt from the "ghost" distillery of Pittyvaich that closed in 1992 after only 18 years of life. The area was once the home and playground of famed Scottish poet Mary Symon, the rolling Speyside hills surrounding Pittyvaich called to mind her renowned poem 'Hame': "It's gloamin' - on a lown hillside, An' lads,... We're ... Hame."

Like the elusive will-o'-the-wisp of folklore, an enigmatic brightness that appears at dusk just long enough for travellers to find their way home, Pittyvaich had a short like but left a distinct and growing legacy. A hidden gem now whispered about the world over for its unique Speyside style.
