At Bruichladdich, they're certain that the source of barley imparts flavor, and that a whisky's flavor profile is impacted by the variety of barley used, its region of growth, and yearly weather conditions. Therefore, the "Islay Barley" range of unpeated malts provides a unique provenance, similar to fine vintage wine. The 2010 edition was made using Optic and Oxbridge grain grew all around Islay - the first 'regional Islay release' and the fifth in the Islay Barley assortment since 2004. This all-natural whisky (no chill filtration or colorization) was aged in ex-Bourbon and French oak barrels.
